In high school, J. Isaiah Smith was an aspiring writer of songs, lyrics and stage plays. As a junior, her was greatly inspired by his peers to write a play titled The Fourth Wall for his senior directed one act. Unfortunately, he was unable to perform/direct the one act play he had written as he also found himself performing in local theatre shows professionally. So, after graduating high school in 2016, he sought out publishing the peice and reached out to several different companies taking submissions.
In late 2016, J. Isaiah heard back from Off The Wall Plays Publishing Company based in the UK and The Republic of Congo. Very interested in publishing the show, Off The Wall Plays and J. Isaiah Smith both signed a contract that would allow the play to be available for online sales internationally. In little over a year, his play was a best seller with the company and had been performed in several different countries and U.S. states, standing out due to it's unique style, concept, and appeal to younger actors and actresses.
Inspired by The Fourth Wall's success, he published two more plays (The Dummies Guide to Saving the USA & The Great Incan Treasure of Confusion) in the coming years, one that was performed at The Papermill Playhouse, New Jersey, USA, in 2018.
Whilst writing plays, he was also studying/teaching himself to write music and craft lyrics as he wrote several independent stand alone songs and was hard at work at a full scale musical.
In 2018, J. Isaiah Smith took one of his favorite original songs to Omaha Performing Arts first ever open mic night, and won the opportunity to perform a 2 hour set pre-show at the Holland Center. With only but an hour of music, he wrote his first ever musical theatre album, What A Kid Did With A Piano, to cover the time slot. After extremely positive feedback, and with the help of several of his close friends the show was remounted as it's own stand-a-lone show on July 27th, 2019 in concert.
J. Isaiah Smith aims to be an even more sucessful writer with works featured in films, on the radio, and on the Broadway stage. He wants his plays to make their way into film and tv show adaptions and touch even more places across the globe as well as Broadway.
Music, art, creation; these are all gifts, and gifts should be shared!
